LEWIS Family History
Both my maternal grandparents were Lewis'. Lue Lewis was the son of Jimmy and Martha Jane Maggard Lewis. He was a WWII Veteran and a wonderful person. Masie Lewis was the daughter of Wilson "Beaver" and Hetty Jane Joseph Lewis. She made an impression on every one she met.
Most of the Lewis' in this area share a common ancestry. Below is the start of a genealogy that I will update often.
James Lewis I was born in Wales in 1736. His family had migrated there from Ireland. He later came to Virginia and then into North Carolina where he married a woman with the last name of Griffin. They had children named James II, Gideon, and Elvira.
When his first wife died, James I married Winnie Henson. Three of their sons were Thaddeus, Isaac, and Juder. They came from Virginia and settled on Cutshin.
At age 17, James II came to Kentucky and settled on Cutshin creek (1811). He married Sallie Couch who later died during the Civil War.
